7 Quick Takes

Hi there,
I decided to post 7 Quick Takes as I've seen on another blog.  Basically, you write about seven things that come to mind, no particular order.  It's a nice way to update family and friends quickly about the events of our lives.

1.  Luke Walks!!
Yes, Luke took his first steps on Monday when my friend Ashlynn was over! He totally surprised me by letting go of her and reaching for me, taking 2-3 steps all on his own. He repeated this about five or so times and did it again for Matthew last night.  We don't have it on camera yet, so his main mode of travel is still the butt-scoot:
Cute butt-scooter

2.  Having a Ball - Basketball and Ping-Pong Balls......So, while I don't have pics of him walking, I managed to snap a few last week when we were outside enjoying 'playing' basketball.

Luke loves balls of all sizes.  Last night when Xin and Matthew played ping-pong, Luke sat on the floor and carefully picked up the dropped balls and threw them.   He'd turn his head to the side to watch how they bounced on the concrete. He had a ping-pong ball in each hand when it was time to get ready for bed, and I'm pretty sure that he knew what he was saying when he said "Bah, bah".

Back to basketball,  he loved trying to catch it and, of course, couldn't resist licking it.

Scooting after the ball.

Success!

It's just hard to get your mouth around it!!

3.  See My Teeth!!!
Luke has two really cute, a-little-bit-crooked front teeth coming on the top.  I think they make him look less like a baby and more like a little boy.  He put them to good use yesterday when I gave him an apple at Central Market. (He was getting fussy and this novel apple totally did the trick. He was content to hold it, bite and roll it around in his car seat when we then stopped at the post office, and he still wanted it later while in his high-chair as I was making dinner!)

4.  Mommy's Helper - Luke likes to be in the kitchen when I am and finds ways to keep himself occupied. For example, he does a good job emptying drawers....

And he's talented at rolling the dishwasher rack back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.   The only 'chore' he really can do by himself is turn the light switch off and on (and off and on......).

5.  Rocking Around - Grandma found this cute little rocker at a garage sale and Luke loves rocking in it. He also loves Grandma's watch, which she is letting him hold here.

6.  Luke's at my mom's today while I catch up on work.  I did Creighton work, but now I need to get busy turning our plentiful garden harvest of eggplants and green peppers in to Eggplant Parmesan to freeze. I hope it tastes as good as Matthew's mom  Jacquie's! She made several for us when Luke was born last year and they were awesome!

7.  We love the basketball hoop and ping-pong table at our new house.  We had friends over on Monday night and the kids ended up playing both (adults too).  As for exercise....I'm working at getting back on the exercise wagon. I can't use the busyness of the move as an excuse any longer. I'm proud of myself that I did get two neighborhood walks in so far this week. I just hand Luke a few leaves and he plays with them while we're walking. He usually talks to me too.  I'm really enjoying this stage of having a little buddy with me all day long.

Blessings to you all!
Have a wonderful rest of your week!
Love,
Laurie
